Primarily, I just wanted to take advantage of this opportunity: I agree
with Ed's comments in general, and this does not come up that often!
(grin)

I certainly see it as the instructor's responsibility to provide
motivation to shift a learner from passivity to activity. The other
ingredient I would add to Ed's recipe is ... instructor enthusiasm!

We can motivate the students; perhaps we need people to motivate
us. (Now, would these people be "administrators"? Nah, these
motivators for faculty must be fellow AMATYC members!)
