The University of New Mexico, Valencia Campus is accepting
applications for an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, a full-time
tenure track, open code position. The appointment begins August
18, 1997. Offer is contingent upon ability to obtain instructor
course approval.
The University of New Mexico-Valencia Campus is a two-year branch
campus of the University of New Mexico. With an emphasis in
teaching excellence, the Valencia Campus offers vocational and
technical courses, as well as academic transfer courses to the
citizens of Valencia and northern Socorro counties. The faculty
and staff serve a student body of about 1,600 each semester. The
campus is located in the Rio Grande Valley about 30 miles south of
Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Salary
Base salary range for a nine month faculty position is $27,000 to
$31,000 depending on education and experience. Summer teaching is
possible and optional with additional compensation. An excellent
package of benefits is provided.
Summary of duties and responsibilities
Provide 15 credit hours of classroom instruction per semester in
the areas of Mathematics. Inform students concerning course
requirements and evaluation process and attendance requirements.
Maintain attendance, scholastic, student records and deadlines.
Prepare and grade class assignments and exams. Advise students on
their academic progress. Post and maintain office hours.
Participate in faculty, college, discussion, and task force
committees such as curriculum development, teaching and learning
techniques and material, and community service.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D or Ed.D in Mathematics or a related
field preferred, but candidates at the doctoral dissertation level
will be considered. Related fields include areas such as
Mathematics Education, Engineering, Computer Science or others
containing substantial mathematics coursework. In addition all
candidates must have a record of excellence in teaching.
Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in teaching at
the community college level. Broad range and current teaching
experience in areas such as developmental mathematics, algebra,
pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, and teacher prep courses.
Ability to teach concepts, ideas and critical thinking utilizing
various teaching techniques and technologies. Experience in
curriculum development. Ability to work cordially and
cooperatively with colleagues and students.
