Completing the Square with manipulatives is part of my introducion to
the process. I use a large colored cellophane x*2 and discuss its geometry.
I add to it different colored strips of "X". I then ask the students to comaprethe geometry and how could I make the new figure more square-like (by moving
half of the "x's" to the opposite dimension). The addition of the missing
coner becomes obvious, and doing completing the square problems are demystified.
