Judy, Here in North Carolina representatives of each community college
are enrolled in an online course (given by other colleagues in the state
who are already teaching courses online) on designing an online course.
See: http://www.faytech.cc.nc.us/%7Eszahran/workshop/assign.htm
Several of us are math instructors and are very excited about the
possibilities. We have just started the experience and have located
several models to "borrow" from. If I were doing a introductory stat
course now I would consider having a CD component in it. I just received
an excellent CD (at first glance) from Addison Wesley (ISBN
0-201-31071-6) which you might look at. One of the most useful tools we
have experienced so far is software for carrying out a threaded
discussion forum in the context of a web page. It is free but requires a
unix based server, so I am now "looking" for one of those!! Email me and
I would be glad to share info. Lee Erker
