I looked at your dampening functions, and like it - as well as the rest
of the site.
I didn't get a chance to play with the music, but I really like that
feature, and I'm sure students would.
FYI, if you ever have a student that's passionate about math and
music, let them research
The Schillinger System of Musical Composition
by Joseph Schillinger.
Schillinger wrote in the 30's and 40's, I believe. George Gershwin
studied wth him before writing Porgy and Bess. He uses a lot of
simple algebra to create music - even things like the expansion,
ignoring the commutative property and like terms, of (a + b)^2 =
aa + ab + ba + bb.
Amazon.com seems to have his book for $205! A student I once had in
a finite math course was also a professional musician, and he clued
me in (to the book _ I don't know any music theory).
Anyway, nice site! I've bookmarked it, and will add it to our
math department's "fun" page.
