David,
Not a stupid question at all. It is, in fact, one of the things that I
always have my students research and report back on when I teach an algebra
or precalculus course. I have gotten some amazingly fine results from this.
I ask for a paragraph - I have gotten as much as 5 nicely annotated pages
with bibliography!!
