Scientific Notebook has been discussed several times on this liatserv
and I will once again voice my enthusiasm for it. This multi-functional
package provides excellent facility for editing mathematics expressions
( the best equation editor going in my view); an excellent interface to
the MAPLE Computer Algebra System ( the best CAS going - in my view) and
both smoothly integrated in a snazzy scientific word processor with many
extras including web browsing abilities for .tex documents; hypertext
linking to local and web documents - both HTML and TEX; extensive on
line help and learning resources for using Scientific Notebook for
creating and for doing mathematics. All this and more for $60US!
In case you are not aware, you can download for free, a fully
functioning copy of Scientific Notebook which self destructs after 30
days unless you purchase it by then. You can also download a Demo
version which is not time limited and is fully functional except that
you cannot save work you create and cannot print. Either of these
downloads are available at:

(I just read this and it sounds like I own shares in Scientific
Notebook, but in fact I am simply a Scientific Notebook user. :-)
