Kevin,
An EXCELLENT source of project ideas for calculus is "Student Research
Projects in Calculus" by Marcus Cohen, et al. It is published by the MAA and
its ISBN # is 0-88385-503-8. My 1991 copyright edition contains 103 projects
with commentary on each project as well as some history and evaluation of
projects in general. Some of the projects have been assigned by the authors
and others not, but commentary on the general effectiveness and relative
difficulty of each is enclosed. Other sources exist, but this is an awesome
start.
