Frank-

I'm not sure what you're going for....... but how about people's perceptions
of mathematics, in general? Whenever I tell someone that I'm a college math
teacher, I most often get one of two reactions:

1) They tilt their head back slowly and say, "Ohhhhhhh..." Then they don't
talk to me the same way again. Or...

2) They give me a 20 minute dissertation on how much they hate math and/or
how bad they are at it. I always think, "Hey, if you were illiterate, would
you be standing here bragging about it?!"
