[MATHEDCC] Plagiarism

Hello everyone,

It has been very quiet here recently - I guess we have all been busy with
our back to school preparations.

One of the problems we have been struggling with is the issue of Internet
Plagiarism. In doing projects in history of mathematics, and other topics,
we find that students will often use material taken from internet sources
and reproduce them verbatim without proper acknowledgement or citation. As
a result, I am preparing a document to be distributed to students when they
are given projects, spelling out appropriate and inappropriate use of the
internet.

If you have such a document in your college, or any general advice in this
area, I would love to hear from you.

Good luck in the new semester.

Brian
