I have ued take-home tests with a great deal of success.
I agree with Peg in that test anxiety is at a low for the student with take
home tests.

On some tests, I encourage the students to work together. Other tests, I
ask them to work by themselves, using the textbook as an aid if necessary.
As long as the students understand the rules, they seem to do fine.

I use open-ended questions on some of these tests. I will ask students to
make-up test questions on a certain topic or explain how a certain problem
is worked "in words." Since these types of questions take a greater amount
of the student's time, they like the idea of having a take home test.
