Helen,
May I suggest another alternative - Scientific Notebook. It contains a Maple
kernal and acts as both a word processor as well as a CAS. It retails for about
$60 a copy and you can get a 30 day review copy. The web site is
www.scinotebook.com. Slight more expensive is MathView. It is a Waterloo-Maple
product which uses a palette for composing mathematical expressions. The
surface plots it produces are excellent and I have found that most students
prefer it to Derive. It goes for about $125.
