Cynthia-
We are very lucky at my school. There is, basically, no seniority involved
in scheduling. Our scheduler tries his best to give everyone their desired
schedule. When he's ready to start, he sends out a copy of the previous
year's schedule with the names blackened out. Then we get a paper to fill
out with 5 slots... slot one is our top priority which may be a course or a
4-day schedule or mornings only, etc. Slot two is our second priority and so
on. We also fill in a little questionaire with questions like: I want a
large lecture course - yes - no - don't care. We also circle courses we are
willing to prep - or have already prepped.
I don't know exactly how he does it, but I'm new and I've always been about
90% happy with my schedules. From what I've heard, my colleagues are happy
too - and we have a big department.
