George,

What a great suggestion. I knew a science teacher who was concerned about
her son's elementary teacher's ability to teach science. She solved the
problem by volunteering to come into the class once a week and do a
presentation on something related to the science they were reading. She did
things with momentum using toy cars and ramps and stuff with magnetism using
magnets and all sorts of metal and non-metal materials. Her son was exposed
to the connections with the readings and the teacher acquired some great
ideas for future lessons without being made to feel that her education was
lacking. It was a win-win situation. If we <truly> feel this is important
we will have to find the time to get involved.
