I work in a math lab at a small rural college (2200 students) which is
currently increasing the role of the math lab in teaching mathematics.
One of our current goals is to purchase software that will allow students
of varoius backgrounds to hone their skills independently of a classroom
setting. Instructor guidance and tutors will be available for these
students. Some of our major priorities for the software are that it should

a) cover arithmetic through college algebra
b) have instructional sections that are narrow in scope
c) provide thorough but not overwhelming detail
d) be reasonably interactive to student responses
e) allow for tracking of individual student progress

Our goal is to allow those students who have large gaps in prerequisite
material and who feel uncomfortable with a tutor an additional avenue of
assistance, and to help returning students refresh their math skills.

Does anyone use or know of such programs?

Many thanks,

Brian Goetz
