Although I'm not a regular user of either Derive or the
TI-92, I remember that the CAS capabilities of the two have
a large overlap without either being a subset of the other.
Even the DOS version of Derive can graph any equation in two
variables, but as I recall, the TI-92 cannot. (This is
harder than simply being able to plot parametric curves.
For example, Derive can plot say a 4th degree polynomial
equation in x and y.)

On the other hand, my DOS version of Derive doesn't seem to
be able to put conditions on expressions, such as evaluating
the square root of x^^2 | x>0, as can be done on the TI-92.

Derive and the TI merged in the TI-92. It was my understanding: anything
I could do in Derive, I could do with my handheld TI-92. (Although I have
not actually compared the two in depth. :-) I would like to know if
anyone has found something Derive can do that the TI-92 couldn't. I would
assume the TI-92 would take longer to solve some things because of memory
constraints on the TI-92 compared to a PC. I'm not going to make it to the
Gettysburg conference. Any chance I can get a transcript of George Dorner's
talk via web or email? Also, George, I couldn't find "TICalc.com". What
were you referencing?

(snip)OTOH, I wwould be very
interested in any problems which Derive (or Mathematica or Maple or ...)
handles but which causes the TI-92 to stumble. I haven't found many
which would be routine in the first two years of college math. I will
give a talk loosely based on this theme at the Gettysburg conference on
Derive/TI-92 and more empirical evidence either way will be appreciated.

I HAVE found some which take a long time. Last weekend I modified my
TI-92 per the instructions pointed to at TICalc.com and now it runs
about 3 times as fast.
