There are many pages which give instructions on how to use various
software packages to explain or demonstrate concepts in calculus.
You should be able to get a feel for the ease of use. In each of the
sections, click on the Computer/Calculator button.
Best,

> Our Department Chair has given a small group of us the task of
> investigating and submitting recommendations regarding various software
> packages appropriate for course development and supplementation for use by
> faculty and students in Statistics, Finite Math, Pre-Calculus, Calculus.
>
>
> After a lively and wide ranging discussion our group decided to seek
> assistance from you, our colleagues, regarding the creation of a "dream
> list" and a "necessity list" of software packages.
>
> Some of the packages currently in the department or suggested include:
> DERIVE, MATHEMATICA, MAPLE, MATLAB, MATHCAD, MATHTYPE, SCIENTIFIC
> WORKPLACE, STATDISC. Unfortunately, most of us have limited experience
> with current versions of these packages and are therefore seeking
> assistance regarding the pros and cons of these and other software
> packages for faculty and student use in the above mentioned courses.
>
> If you have used these or other packages please share your insights and
> experiences with us. Some of the criteria we are concerned with are: ease
> of use, applicability as concept presentation enhancement, broad based
> multi-course applicability vs course specific, the learning curve for
> "mastery" by instructor for teaching and student for learning,
> appropriateness for student use, and of course cost.
>
> Thanks in advance for your assistance. Have a great semester!
