A long time ago (about 1979) I was teaching in HS and
asked my ninth graders to write a poem about mathematics.
I thought you might enjoy a couple of them I saved and
have dug up...
Roses are red,
Violets are blue;
Math is something
I hate to do. Sharon Jones

On top of old smokey,
all covered with snow
there isn't a math problem
that he doesn't know.
He thinks he's a genius
but that isn't true
but one day, Mr Kimball,
I'll be better than you. Shelia

There is a teacher in the ninth grade
whose reputation will never fade.
He's by is computer all the day,
you know, teachers will play.
Algebra is hard, you see.
But Mr Kimball makes it all seem glee
Though his jokes are corny
and he'll say them till he's forty
Mr Kimball is nice to have around--
when you need a clown.
