As always, I appreciate the discourse on this list concerning how to improve
education in America. I know the solution is complex and multi-faceted, but
I think there is a problem more foundational than concepts v drill, depth v
breadth.

I think we all have to look in a mirror (not just the people on this list
but ALL of us) and ask if we are challenging our students to do their best
and then expecting them to try and then holding them accountable.

It does little good to hold up NCTM standards and then give a "Practice
Test" to take home the night before the "Real Test" which covers the standards.
