Phil is correct. I apologize if I made it look like we shouldn't discuss
the "m for slope" topic again. I was just trying to say that we didn't get
anywhere on this subject last time. Maybe we'll get to the bottom of this
sooner or later!

As soon as my colleague returns my copy of Cajori's History of Mathematical
Notations I'll see what he (Cajori, not my colleague) has to say about it.
If I find anything good, I'll post it. (Of course, I've obviously missed
some posts on this subject from before so maybe someone has already done
this!)
