I have heard the theorem about the infinite number of hairs on
a sphere. When I heard it, in a topology course, without proof as
I recall, the instructor said there would always be a cowlick in this
case, and how it can be applied to the human head.

And there's nothing wrong with discussins going in different directions.

Sort of like the theorem - if we have enough discussions, one of them
is sure to stand each of us on end.
