We have not given a common final, but we have several instructors who have
taught both formats and say they have held the students responsible for the
same amount of material. All instructors are given the same generic
syllabus and supposedly cover the same basic topics, with very few topics
are put on the optional list.
As far as student satisfaction is concerned, students self-select into the
format the want. Many students are not happy with math no matter which
format we use.
