The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting
applications for the faculty position of Mathematics Instructor at De Anza
College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE: Instruct
community college mathematics courses to a diverse student population with
diverse learning styles. The courses range from pre-algebra and algebra to
elementary statistics, calculus, linear algebra and differential equations.
Revise and develop curriculum as it relates to the discipline infusing
multicultural perspectives and contributions where appropriate. Hold daily
office hours being flexible to the needs of a diverse student population.
Other duties include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining
scheduled office hours, pursuing professional growth activities, and
performing other duties consistent with faculty responsibilities. Faculty
also have the opportunity to serve on campus and district committees and to
participate in campus activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the
diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious
background and sexual orientation of community college students
2. Master's Degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics OR Bachelor's
Degree in either of the above AND Master's Degree in Statistics, Physics,
or Mathematical Education OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience teaching mathematics at the community college or high
school level.
2. Recent mathematics course work or professional development activities.
3. Active membership in professional mathematics or statistics
associations.
4. Experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse groups.
5. Experience in applying mathematics in a
non-teaching environment.
6. Experience and interest in teaching the
pre-algebra and algebra courses.

In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
1. The willingness to teach the full range of courses offered.
2. The willingness to incorporate technology in the teaching curriculum.
3. The awareness of contributions to the field of mathematics by women
and men of non-western and western societies.
4. Capacity to convey a sense of enthusiasm and excitement about
mathematics.
5. The ability to design and teach courses that engage students in
their own learning, and motivate students to develop higher-order thinking
skills.

SALARY RANGE: $37,571 - 59,548 annually plus benefits; actual placement
is non-negotiable and is based on applicant's verified education and
experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time, Permanent,
10 months per year.
