I am new to this list. As things are rather quiet during the holidays,
I thought I would take the opportunity to show everyone my
grumpy, curmudgenous nature.
I have a gripe.
California community colleges have always kept tuitions low. We
were, in fact, free until ole Scroogemejian (a former governor)
established
fees as a way of keeping taxes low (a fee is not a tax in Republican
parlance.)
So now, along comes Clinton with this lovely tax credit proposal that
will
allow you to deduct some part of your tuition. This will not
benefit California community colleges at all - this will benefit
students going to USC or, like Chelsea, to Stanford - but it's
just a kick in the teeth for us, who are already toothless.
Some Democrat! Hey, while we're at it, let's cut capital gains,
estate taxes, screw the environment and make all those welfare
moms get a job! Then we can send all those inhalers to prison!
Just like Johnson couldn't go to China, no Republican could get
away with any of these things.
