In response to Annette Hawkins' question about prerequisites:
After many years of students coming to our school for summer session and
being admitted to courses without prerequisites, we asked virtually all
"feeder" schools - 4 year and 2 year -
#1 "What do you mean when you tell your students they can take a particular
course here at our campus?"
They all responded:
What we mean is, "If they let you take it, and you pass, the credit will
transfer"
and #2 "Should we make your students meet the same prerequisites that our
native students have to meet (This means 1. appropriate ACT of no more than
3 years old, 2. a "C" or better on a transcript for the prerequisite, or 3.
take the placement test here).?"
they all responded:
"Absolutely!"
[In fact, our coordinating board of higher education requires that we do
not discriminate against either our native students, or transfer students
in the area of placement - i.e. treat them all the same. We drop students
at the end of the first week of class if they can't convince us that they
meet the prerequisites - and they get no money back, since our registration
info says it is the students' responsibility to be sure that they meet the
prerequisites.]
