[MATHEDCC] Re: Semantics

I seem to have opened a can of worms with my original enquiry about the
use of "AND" as a decimal. The only thing we agree on is that we don't
agree. I have made enquiries (that shows I'm from UK!) elsewhere and I'm
sure there is no international standard. I suppose we must do the best
we can with our students to make sure they are aware of possible
ambiguities, depending on the background of the person they are
addressing, so they can ask for clarification. If you speak French, you
will note that they use "vingt et un pointe vingt et un" for 21.21 which
seems to co-relate to the UK version of English.

I still haven't heard from a Canadian list member, so I'm relying on
local knowledge.
