I was involved last fall and will be again next fall in a learning community
where I team taught a Basic Math and Reading class combination with a
reading instructor. Part of the impetus for the combination was that the
reading score on the ASSET test is a better predictor of success in
developmental math in our district than the math score. Some of the
statistics from our class has me curious about the connection between
reading and math. I would like to collect data and possibly design a study
about reading and math. Does anyone have a school or district with a
central data collection department that could get information about reading
skills and their correlation to success in math? Or would you be interested
in helping me design a study about possible connections and whether a focus
on reading comprehension can improve success in math?
