To all,

The new National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education (ATE) Program
Announcement is now on the Web. Note that there is a new teacher preparation
emphasis offered. The address is

 http://www.nsf.gov/cgi-bin/getpub?nsf0062

Important dates: Preliminary Proposals May 25, 2000
Formal Proposals October 19, 2000

The ATE program is in the administration's budget to get an increase of $10
million. This will bring the total to between $40 and $41 million depending on
final allocation. All of the opportunities available for the past several
years are still available. This increase is reflected in two new opportunities
in the new program announcement:

(a) Regional Centers for Manufacturing or Information Technology
Up to 5 new regional centers $2 million total for 3 years and up to 10
planning grants of $50,000 each. We haven't had the opportunity for
planning grants for awhile. Note: If you submit for a planning grant, the
title must start with "Planning Grant for ..."

(b) Articulation Partnerships Up to 25 awards of $100,000 to $300,000 for
3 years
(i) Teacher Preparation in Two-Year Colleges -- totally new
(ii) Articulation Partnerships between Associate's degree and
Bachelor's degree Programs -- always available but more carefully
described now.
