I don't think there is an answer to this question. But I have two thoughts:
1. The obvious rebuttal is that allowing stored formulas or notes while
challenging problem solving on exams might be a better alternative to
asking for reguritated class notes or text.
2. We have one professor here that will allow graphing calculators but
insists that students zero them out (ie, RESET) upon entering his room for
exams. While this might sound like a solution, it is really not. There
are programs out there (not surprisingly, written by students!) that
SIMULATE resetting your calculator.
