Thus his software aimed to make automatic a set of facts and relationships
for which it is foolish to turn on a calculator: +,-,X,/ of whole numbers up
to 12, fraction/decimal/percent equivalences for a small set of fractions,
computation with powers of ten, and other things which I forget ( I would
add estimation skills to the list).

I am now exploring the algebraic entities which are equivalent to counting
on your fingers. For example, don't turn on your calculator to solve a
proportion or to know what the graph of y=2x+3 (and others) looks like, or
to reexpress d=rt (and others) in terms of the other two variables or to
know how a function behaves when x gets big or small, or ..... (what's on
your list?)
