WASHTENAW COMMUNITY COLLEGE
SOLICITS APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING POSITION
MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTOR

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Teach the calculus/differential equations sequence in addition to a
wide variety of other courses.
2. Also teach basic, applied and college preparatory mathematics in both
traditional and individualized settings.
3. Teach a diverse student body in daytime, evening, and Saturday classes
on the main campus, at extension centers, and business and industry
sites.
4. Teach courses using a graphing calculator, currently the TI-85.
5. Participate in department and general faculty meetings, and in
applicable College committee activities.
6. Prepare instructional materials for the Mathematics Department.
7. Participate actively in curriculum planning, syllabus writing,
examination development, textbook selection and program
evaluation/revision.
8. Maintain an active program of personal professional development.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Master's degree in Mathematics (preferred). Also considered
Mathematics Education, or closely related Mathematics area with a
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics.
2. Equivalent of two years full time teaching experience (equates to 900
student contact/clock hours) at the high school level or above.
Preference will be given to candidates with community college level
experience.
3. Experience in teaching the calculus/differential equations sequence.
4. Experience in teaching mathematics below the calculus level.

Appointment/Salary:

Anticipated date of appointment is for the 1997 Fall semester. The
initial annual base salary for 1996-97 was $31,420 - $42,080 dependent
upon education and work experience; base load of 32 weeks/160 days/450
contact hours per academic year. Numerous fringe benefits included
health, dental, life insurance and Michigan Public School Employees
Retirement System all subject to the completion of faculty contract
negotiations.
