I wish our failure rate in Dev. studies was approaching only 50%. We vary
from 70% to 50%. However, this should not be surprising because we allow
anyone to make the attempt; there is no admission standard for developmental
studies. Last year we had a student who had earned a certificate (given to
students who do not meet high school standards for graduation, ie. "Special
Ed.".) Not too surprisingly, he did not succeed. As long as there is no
admission threshold, we will continue to have a threshold in our courses
which is too high for many students.
