In a nutshell, we use our College Algebra course for two purposes: for
college general ed credit and for a prerequisite to our Survey of Calculus
course for biological, management, etc majors.
I, basically, teach College Algebra just like a precalc class without the
trig. I do lots of things to get them ready for Calculus - concepts of
approaching and limits, for example. When we graph rational functions, we'll
discuss what is happening to the graph as x approaches infinity or as x
approaches a vertical asymptote from the left.
