<< I'm on the fence on this one. Part of me screams NO, we should not give
them credit for college algebra if that's not what they are doing, it
dilutes our standards, etc. Another part of me thinks we simply shouldn't
be asking everyone to do algebra. There are a lot of very intelligent
people out there who find it a complete mystery.

There are a lot of intelligent people out there who don't understand basic
science. There are a lot of intelligent people out there who can't write a
decent poem or story. There are a lot of intelligent people out there who
have absolutely no artistic or athletic talent. Still we have them take a
general course in each of these topics. Since they'll need algebra to
understand any general "college" course in math.... Well, you get the picture.
