We at Wake Tech Comm Coll (Raleigh, NC) have required the TI-85
in our mathematics for engineering technology curriucula for about
5 years. At first there was resistance: (1) cost and (2) negative
feeling about calculators. During the first couple of years we ran
in-service courses for interested faculty in the eng. tech. division.
Several took the course and they were thrilled at what the calc. could
do. Since then most of the faculty encourage students to use the calc.
in their classes. The only small fight we had was over TI-85 or HP.
Since the calc is used for three courses the cost, spread out over
three quarters, is low compared to texts.

I do wonder why your college is switching from "tech math" to
the intermediate algebra/trig course?
