bar code reader

We use a bar code reader by UBI in our Math Lab to keep records of
attendence. Students run their student ID card through the reader
and it reads their SS number. The attached PC accesses their
student records in the College computer system. Software was written
locally to keep and print out records. It seems to run pretty
smoothly. The necessary hardware, except for the PC, cost about $425.
Students without their cards can type their SS number on the
keyboard.
