Mathematics can be difficult to convey in HTML. Johnston, a
former math teacher and current editor of textbooks for
Houghton Mifflin, writes in detail about the problems, gives
suggestions for using ASCII and GIF files, and supplies notes
on proposals andexperimental projects such as MINSE, the
Integrator, Java applets, and Portable Document Format (PDF).
