Dear colleagues:

AMATYC needs information about your involvement in teacher preparation courses
at your institution. If you teach the mathematics content course(s) for
preservice elementary teachers please complete this short survey and
return it as directed in the survey. If you do not teach the content
course(s), either forward it to a colleague that does teach the
course(s), or, if the course(s) is/are not offered at your institution,
so indicate in the first question and return it.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

AMATYC Survey on Teacher Preparation Issues

From: Mathematics Preparation of Pre-Service Teachers Subcommittee
of the AMATYC Program Issues Committee

Date: May 8, 1997

During the past few years, AMATYC officers and members have served
on various national committees and task forces pertaining to teacher
preparation. The National Science Foundation and Mathematical Sciences
Educational Board are currently considering major initiatives to examine
the current status of teacher preparation courses and content, and have
asked AMATYC to participate in these initiatives. To factor the experience
of our members into the formulation of an AMATYC position, we need more
information about the nature of our members' involvement in teacher
preparation and the extent of that involvement.

We ask you to complete this survey as soon as possible so that AMATYC can
accurately and knowledgeably represent your activities and concerns.

Please respond by May 20, 1997 to:

Mercedes McGowen
William Rainey Harper College
1200 W. Algonquin Road
Palatine, IL 60067-7398
