A friend of mine, a historian, once told me that the printing press caused
some anxiety in late medieval academic circles. "The end of scholarship -
no one will bother to memorize texts anymore."
We have to decide what purpose the old technology served (familiarity with
numbers, access to information, . . .) and work to serve that purpose with
the new technology.
