No need to think of yourself as a flame-thrower. Your concern is valid and
I thank you for reminding us of the original intent of the list.

I think the list *does* have its place in allowing people to search for
roommates
or ask questions about teaching loads, etc. simply because AMATYC has no other
list (that I know of) and it's a good way to reach a broad cross section of our
colleagues in a hurry.

However, as we discussed a year or two ago, unless there seems to be a
large group-wide interest in the responses, maybe the responses to these
queries should be sent to the individual sender instead of the entire list.
Then if there is
general interest in the responses, perhaps the originator of the thread could
sum up the results and make a short post to the group. It may help if the
orignator said something like, "Please respond to my personal address instead
of the group."
