Thought I'd jump into the discussion before I leave for the holiday. Across
the board (all disciplices) we are seeing an increase in the number of
students who are shocked that they need to do something outside of class.
They balk at having to write papers in English and feel they understand what
is going on in math class sooooooo there is no need to do homework. As one
teacher said, "If they make a 100 on one quiz and fail all the rest somehow
they have the misconception that they are being successful. Are we unique?
Or at the tech school level are we seeing the wave of the future? Because
of the proposed changes in welfare and state grants, (through lottery $$)
that pay for any diploma program, we have more and more students with
unrealistic ideas as to what it takes to be successful in college (or life).
