Jodi,
But switching to exponential form can get a little trying when the
exponents become fractions. So I encourage my students to go to the
exponential form only when they get stuck with radicals. And I find that
most of my students have less trouble with radical form than the fractional
exponent form. I do find that this is a concept that requires
encouragement and maybe some extra help in and out of class.
