As an undergraduate I worked in a developmental lab. They did not use
computer programs but video tapes. One instructor was assigned to the
classroom. I was hired as an extra tutor. It basically was a nightmare.
One qualified instructor and one tutor could not possible guide independent
study of that many students and have the students feel like they are getting
the attention they need. It was frustrating for everyone involved. I
believe they continued for another year (I think a total of 3) and abandoned
it in favor of classroom instruction. Just a side note I tutored at another
university who had computer programs in the math lab to supplement classroom
lecture. Some programs can be very frustrating also. Be careful.
