Hi! I teach at the 2-year Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC). I am
presently the Math Center Coordinator and an instructor. My present load
includes 2 classes in college algebra. We chose a new text for this fall:
College Algebra Graphs & Models by Bittinger, Beecher, Ellenbogen, and Penna
(Addison Wesley). I love the text because of its emphasis on functions and
the algebraic approach interwoven with the grapher. But we have found that
we opened a wider gab between our intermediate algebra (a prep for college
algebra) and college algebra. So we are looking at topics and comparing the
two to see what needs to be altered in the intermediate alg. My feeling is
that we need to go with a new text that will flow better into the college
algebra. We are presently using the Intermediate Alg for College Students
by Angel, Prentice Hall. Any suggestions?? Recommendations of books??
My main question to you all is this: can you send me copies of your course
outlines for either of these 2 courses? I would also like to see if what we
call college algebra is really consistent with other schools out there!!
Thanks much!!
