Our students are a different clientel than when I taught my first class in
1967. "Chalk and talk" as one keynoter at AMATYC put it, is probably not
as effective as it was in 1967. I do not know the solution to the apathetic
teacher or student, but I always keep in mind Einstein' definition of
insanity as "doing things the way we always have and expecting different
results." Surely teachers, being among the most educated of society, can
help find the solutions to tough questions.
One more comment--I always have to keep harping on curriculum. An outdated,
irrelevant curriculum is hard to sell even to motivated students.
