I too, have had a similar experience. I have taught the past two summers and
recently started teaching some condensed classes (7-8 week) during the regular
semester. The attrition rate has been higher in the longer classes, often
because of work schedule changes, but my students tend to do better than those
in 16 week classes. I don't know why this is so but speculate that it is
because they have heard part of the next topic before they do their homework
and consequently hae a better grasp of the overall picture. I know from my
own experience that when I copied over my notes daily, even if I didn't have
time to work on an assignment, I did much better and grasped concepts at a
much faster rate. (I improved my grade level and cut my study time in half
when I started doing this.)
