I am glad for the background information. Nevertheless, one might send in
one's sarcasm tone detector in for a checkup; no sarcasm was intended, just
an all-too-easy poke at The Garden State. Karen of Orange County would
understand, and 8-). >>
Maybe I am missing something here but, but what is wrong with the Garden
State? Maybe Karen (who I really do respect very highly and admire) could
help me understand the intended message and/or humor that I mistakeningly
took as sarcasm.
Here is what I mean. Your signature for Phil's first message was:

College of the Desperate, Palm Desert, CA
This made sense since the pay was in your opinion very low.
The signature for Phil's second message was:

College of the Desolate, Palm Desert, CA
Please help me understand how this is not sarcastic and unprofessional. I
have an open mind and do appreciate a good joke.
