In my opinion, this is something that must be resisted at all costs. The
law states that one does not have to grant exemptions based on
disabilities if a course is "essential" to the program. By granting an
exemption, the administration is saying clearly that math is not
essential to a college education. It is a short step from there to
getting rid of it as a requirement altogether. By all means, we should
do whatever we can to help people with disabilities get through
difficult courses, but we must insist that they get through them just
the same.
