Students are far too often seeking refuge in the "math anxiety" shelter or
the "learning disabled" (in math only) category!!! >>

How many of us have had a student come to us and tell us that they are
registered with the campus disabled students center and need more time on
his/her exam? Since my mother has an MS in Special Education, I always ask
what their dissability is..... Most will say, "Well, they haven't been able to
really diagnose it yet. But, since I'm so bad in math, they say I have a
processing problem." Uh-huh. Yeah.

I'll go out of my way to help a true dyslexic (I'm a bit dyslexic myslef)....
but when they say it's "some sort of processing problem" that they can't put
their finger on..... I say (though not to the student) they just don't know
their background math.
