If you go to http://www.amatyc.org/publications.html you will be on the
Publications page of the AMATYC web site. There you can view and print all
Guidelines and Position Statements adopted by AMATYC. In particular, you
can view and print "Guidelines for Mathematics Departments At Two-Year
Colleges", which includes the following statement.
"Mathematics departments should be adequately staffed to allow for a
maximum class size of thirty students. Opportunity for frequent
interaction between students and instructors should be provided, both in
the classroom and in office consultations."
On the same publications page you can find an on-line version of the
Crossroads document, and if you go to Chapter 4, Implications, you will
find the following statement.
"Classes must be held in a suitable environment. They must be a reasonable
size (a maximum of 30 with fewer in foundation classes) to enhance the
opportunity for the use of interactive learning strategies. "
